    Surf gloves

Your hands are very important when surfing and most evidently, when paddling for a wave. That is why it is important that you can feel them when in the water. In winter, the water in the North Sea can get quite cold. Therefore, we recommend using surf gloves when the water is below 12 degrees. These keep your hands nice and warm, so that you no longer have to end a surf session too early with numb hands.

At Hart Beach, we sell surf gloves in different designs, sizes and thicknesses. We have neoprene surf gloves, mitts and lobsters. With the surf gloves, all 5 fingers are separate, the mittens in comparison have four fingers together and the thumb apart. With lobster gloves, the thumb and forefinger are separate, and 3 remaining fingers are together.

The mittens are the warmest, because your fingers are comfortable together. However, this also gives you less grip. The five finger gloves are a bit colder, but they do provide more grip. In this sense, the surf lobsters are a compromise between the mittens and gloves. Are you a real ice bunny, then opt for the 7 mm mittens from Vissla. Prefer lobsters? Then check out the 5 mm lobsters from C-Skins and Rip Curl! For 3 mm five finger gloves, look at C-Skins.

What thickness you go for depends entirely on your preference. Most surf gloves are available in 3mm or 5mm. In the Dutch winter, we prefer to go for 5mm gloves!
