    Ocean & Earth is opgericht door Brian Cregan en partners in 1978 en begon met het produceren van standaard surfproducten. Ocean & Earth groeide door een netwerk van retailers op te zetten in Australië. Het personeel had een geruime kennis van surfen wat hielp bij de productontwikkelingen. Maar andere activiteiten werden met vallen en opstaan ontwikkeld.

    Tegen het midden en eind van de jaren tachtig was het assortiment van Ocean & Earth aanzienlijk gegroeid en omvatte het een breed scala aan surfaccessoires, rugzakken en kleding dat nog steeds de ruggengraat van het bedrijf is. In 2010 werd de 'World's Strongest Leash' geïntroduceerd: een volledig gevormde surfleash in plaats van een driedelige heat-gelaste surfleash.
