Skimboards
Skimboarding remains incredibly popular today. With a thin board, you can glide over a layer of water or surf the onshore waves. The skimboard may look simple, but there's more to it than meets the eye! It is a small board made of wood or Styrofoam. For skimboarding, it is important you know what you want to do. First - for a novice skimboarder, it is best to opt for a larger board. This gives you more friction on the water and makes it easier to keep your balance. Your weight also influences the choice of skimboard. The sizes S/M are for shredders up to 55 kg and the size L/XL is for riders over 55 kg.
For golf skimming, a skimboard with a foam core is often preferred. These are lighter and have more buoyancy to stay on the waves. You can then really surf and paddling is no longer necessary! The board we see most often is the skimboard made of wood. A wooden skimboard is good for flatland skimming. This is in very shallow water such as at a lake, river or at low tide on the beach. A flatland skimboard often has a twin tip. This means that the board is symmetrical. The nose and tail have the same shape and this allows you to shred and do tricks in both directions. Skimboards often come with an anti-slip layer that ensures good grip!
